Managing Conflict with Your Teens

A quick 6 page course to help you get more positive outcomes from dealing with conflict

4. Keep the balance

Your relationship with your teen is THE most important thing!

Think back over the last day or so:

How many interactions with your teen have been based on positive emotional connection?

How many have been negative or corrective?

We need to make sure there are at least as many positive
interactions as there are negative or corrective.

If we are having a tough time, we need to increase the

positive interactions to redress the balance.

Connective interactions are any that help your teen feel seen, understood, comforted, nurtured etc.

Here are some ideas:

  • Running them a bath
  • Leaving a nice note for them to find
  • Giving them praise
  • Saying ‘I love you’

Note down ideas of things you can do to increase the
number of positive interactions with your teen
