Autism Assessments in Derbyshire

What is Autism (ASC)?

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is a neurodevelopmental difference, not an illness or something to be “fixed.” It shapes how a child or young person experiences:

  • Social communication and relationships
  • Sensory information (sound, touch, light, textures)
  • Flexibility of thinking and routines
  • Emotional regulation and coping with change

Every autistic child or teenager is unique. Many are deeply insightful, creative, and focused, but they may also find certain social, sensory, or emotional situations overwhelming.

Common Signs of Autism in Children & Teens

While each child is different, autistic young people may:

  • Prefer routine and predictability
  • Experience sensory sensitivities (noise, clothing, food textures)
  • Struggle with social interaction or communication
  • Mask their differences, especially in school
  • Experience high levels of anxiety

Masking can make autism harder to recognise, particularly in teenagers and girls, who may put huge effort into “fitting in” at school but feel exhausted or distressed at home.

Why a Private Autism Assessment?

Many parents come to us after months or even years of waiting, feeling dismissed, or unsure what their child really needs. A private autism assessment at Percuro Psychology offers:

  • Clarity and answers about your child’s strengths and differences
  • A comprehensive, NICE-compliant assessment carried out by a Clinical Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist
  • A neuroaffirming approach, recognising your child as an individual, not a checklist of symptoms
  • A detailed written report with practical recommendations for home, school, and wellbeing

Autism Assessments in Derbyshire & Beyond

We are based in Matlock, Derbyshire, and families travel to us from across the East Midlands, including Chesterfield, Sheffield, and Nottingham. We also offer some aspects of the process online, making assessments more accessible for families further afield.
